I just got myself a new bike, and I spent quite a bit on it, so I'm wondering if what I have is considered decent by todays standards:
Frame: Specialized Epic 2003 Forks: Rock Shox Duke Race 2004 handlebars: Profile Carbon bar Shifters: Shimano XT Brake Levers: Shimano XT Stem: Race Face Deus V-Brakes: Shimano XT 2004 Front Mech: Shimano XT 2004 Rear Mech: Shimano XT Crank: Shimano XT 2004 hollowtech II Pedels: Shimano m959 SPD's Cassette: Shimano XT 2004 Seatpost: USE Alien Carbon Seat: Selle Italia SLR Wheels: Mavic Crossmax Enduro Tires: Hutchinson Python In whoevers opinion, am I riding a quality bike? Thanks in advance. |

Uhm, hell yes! That is quite a cutting edge setup you've got there? You're kidding though right? You know you got a sweet ride and just want everyone to admire it

lol I swear man, I'm pretty clueless. I used to ride years back, and I remember that XT used to be considered good. I had a rockhopper before this, and it had pretty basic stuff on it. So I got the epic and then changed the stuff for lighter parts based on reviews I read.
But after getting everything, I was suddenly worried I'd bought 'commercial' parts, and that all the good stuff was from obscure manafacturers I hadn't heard of. What got me thinking about it was after buying all this newer stuff, the bike still didn't feel as light as I expected it to. But thanks for the reply, man, it puts my mind at rest ![]() |

Only part in the entire setup I don't like is the fork, not that its a bad fork, but I've had nothing but grief from RS customer service in the past. Since then only Zoochi or Fox for me.

Very nice cross country setup. If I was still into that scene I would kill for that bike.

You said it that was exactly what i was expecting, I cant tell you how often on other forums people come in with this brand new dual suspension Huffy they just bought because it looked cool, and write a post like rate my bike or how sick is this bike? LOL that is pretty funny.

Did you build this bike up yourself? or did you get it complete?
And how much did this cost? Thanks |

Thanks for the replies, everyone, I feel more at ease now. Yeah, I built it myself. I bought a stock Epic, and removed pretty much everything and replaced it all over a period of 2 weeks. I think it weighs in at around 25lbs, so It's pretty reasonable for a dual sus. It's cost around £2300+, I can't quite remember the exact figure. Last edited by seven : 29-02.-2004 at 01:18 PM. |

nope your bike is a peice and can only be disposed of by a true professional such as me
you can send you steaming pile to my buisness adress and i will assure you that i will take care of it just joking the epic is a very nice frame and xt componets are perrty nice treat this baby nice and don't leave it out side even though you have your frame locked up you can still have parts and components stolen. ive even seed cranksets and bottom brackets shocks wheelsets derailures you name it its been taken stolen off of bikes up here in utah |

Your bike is really quite nice, the differences between XTR (top of the line) and XT are very small although I think that your saddle (if it is the 135g Selle Italia SLR that I am thinking of) is best suited to a road bike.
I think that you have to be a bit careful about what type of MTB you buy/make up as generally the bike will/should take a bit of abuse. I am a road rider (sorry) although I use a Marin (deore goup) for recovery rides, I smash this bike around a bit and don't really need to worry too much as it is a pretty cheap bike. |
