Question Amphetamine's

Has any person in this forum tried Amphetamine's while riding?
What were the results and how did you feel after using Amphetamines? Did it take the pain away after riding huge distances?

I'm not sure of the exact point of your query, however, Tom Simpson died while using them in the '67 TdF. Additionally, they're both illegal and banned in sports

Scary question posed to a forum dedicated to health and fitness.

Acute side effects include:

Increased heart rate
Increased blood pressure
Reduced appetite and weight loss
Insomnia
Headaches
Convulsions
Hallucinations and paranoia
Death may also occur due to ruptured blood vessels in the brain, heart attacks, heart rhythm abnormalities and heatstroke

Chronic Side Effects include:

Uncontrollable and abnormal movements of the face and jaw muscles called dyskinesias
Compulsive and repetitive behaviors
Paranoid delusions similar to schizophrenia
Death of blood vessels throughout the body
Nerve damage

I have read the book about Tom Simpson. Ty for the information on what side effects it has. Scary stuff.
I wonder how they could use such a drug whilst riding over Mount Ventoux.

I think for almost all of the population some simple training will help you go faster.

if u've ever seen someone on amphetmines you would wonder how they're even be able to walk never mind ride a bike. i go clubbing quite often and see loadsa ppl outta their heads, look like zombies, walking from side to side, spewing their guts up. its a very bad idea to even consider riding a bike on the stuff! keep to uci legal supplements!

I saw a guy running (yes running, not riding) a 3000m track race after taking speed. He went out like he was in a 200m race, had nearly lapped the field by half way, then hit the wall totally at ~2400m and walked over the line in a distant last place whilst projectile vomiting. Clearly the amphetamines helped him a lot.

I'll just say it was/is very prevelant in the pro peloton.

Problem is you get hooked and can't perform without them and after taking them for years you end up with amphetamine psychosis and depression..

Now think of how prevelant depression is in cycling and one who just OD'd.

Trying to scare people doesn't educate them and saying people in clubs are whak on amps is ridiculous. That's extacy/MDMA which, while an amphetamine analog. is entirely different in it's mod of action and end results.

Amphetamine's were the drug of choice for cheats in the 60's and perhaps 70's - not any more. The facts aren't in regarding Pantani so your implication is premature.

I know you're wrong on that one m8! As I go clubbing regularly to hard house events around england I tend to find out what kind of a mess people are in and what kind of drugs they're taking. Ecstasy/speed(amphetamines)/cocaine and ketamine are the choice of the users. So again like i said its unbelieveable to think ppl could manage to ride a bike on the stuff after a lot of messes I've seen whilst clubbing. Like i said before you should stick with legal supplements, the health risks are less and the benefits are greater, plus no-one can call you a cheat!

Anytime you alter your body's natural chemistry you throw yourself out of balance. The body, in its attempts to restore balance, winds up throwing all kinds of other processes out of whack. Speaking from the position of a recovering drug addict with over 5 years of sobriety, the idea of using chemicals to gain an edge ALWAYS comes around to bite you in the ass in the long run. Diet and training carry much greater rewards. Do yourself a favor and scrap the idea of amphetamines. What I wouldn't do to have been riding instead of wasting my time all those years!

Abuse of ANYTHING is dumb and fact is that a bunch of studies are now being done with the CORRECT dosage of MDMA in psychotherapy situations of rape counseling, etc.

Abuse anything and you have problems.

As for pantani, of course the evidence is out, but knowing that he had his hematocrit blasted and how the pro peleton works over there in regards to stimulants, the evidence is more likely than NOT that he had done them.

Maybe ullrich wasn't taking MDMA, either? Oh yea, he gotted popped for it!

I guess he is now all screwed up and his life is over.

I wouldn't use them myself. I think the same thing could be accomplished, though, by fixing my bike up with music. I'm not referring to phones either as ear-phones are too dangerous. But I think it would be cool to fix a high-tech C.D. player somewhere to my bike and attach tiny but powerful speakers. How many bikes do you see with such comforts and why should car-drivers have all the good music?
