I am new to the biking scene. I have grown up either skating, surfing, or whatever. I recently bought a Trek 4300. Actually only several days ago. I really like the bike. From what I am told it is a great bike to start with. Anyway, I'm looking for a book or something that would help me get familiar with doing minor tune ups and just getting to know the bike parts. Does anyone know of such material. Any recomendations???

It's not a book, but the Park Tool site has a lot of useful maintenance info:

here is another site, quite useful in many areas, also has a "Mechanics 101" section that should more or less directly answer ur question.
The riding tips/skills section is good to. http://www.myra-simon.com/bike/tips.html |

The park tools web site is good.
I have used Richard's bicycle book. Although wordy, explains how things work. See also Sheldon Browne's web site. |

I'm a big fan of Bicycling Magazine's Complete Guide to Bicycle Repair and Maintenance (4th ed.) . Lots of pictures and step-by-step directions. It tells you what tools you'll need and when you should just go to your local bike shop instead. I built-up my commuter rig with the help of this book.
