Question Chains

What is the difference between IG and HG 8 speed chains

Sorry this might be a stupid question as i am a beginer

any help would be great

Interactive Glide, IG, was a complete system designed to aid both up and down shifting. An 8 speed IG chain is 7.1mm wide and an HG chain is 7.4mm . Shimano says use IG chains with IG systems.Sram claims their chains are compatible with both.
