All, I am a relatively new road cyclist looking for fitness and have heard that high cadence will get me fitter quicker, what's the quickest way to estimate your cadence - any tips appreciated.
I do have a cycle computer on my Lemond but it doesn't show cadence. |

Other possibilities is 10 seconds - multiply by 6, 15 seconds by 4, 5 seconds by 12. It just depends on you and how well your brain is working at the time. As you do it over time - you will be able to guestimate as you go. One word of advice is not to get to fixated on cadence & let it rule you as you can actually start to lose strength by shifting down to keep the cadence up while you actually need to be pushing the muscles a little more. It's not the dark side, we just know who's the best. Make sure you hold onto your Mountain Bike though. It can help you in your road cycling, it helps to break up the same ole same ole rut, you may feel you get yourself into. Plus as you get better and more comfortable on the road it would probably be a great bike for commuting with. |
