Default What to carry in the Hydration bag.

I just got a Camel Back MULE for a B-day gift and am deciding what to do with all the "extra" space (I had a smaller bag before this).

Right now I have a Crank Bros. multi tool., a Girvin (?) multitool (there is some overlap here but some different features too), lube, tube, pump, chapstick, first aid kit, quarters, a Cliff bar, and usually a windbreaker.

What do you ride with? Ideas? I think I'll slip in a $5 bill soon, and I'm thinking about adding a couple of chain links, but I'm not sure.

I only carry one bike tool, I do carry a few extra chain links and a new master link (sram chain) I carry my Nextel phone, the big difference is I carry a first aid kit, I have a big one in my van, and a small one in the pack, consisting of gauze, sterile cloth, butterfly closures, disposable prep pads and alchohol pads plus some other stuff I can't remember off the top of my head, basically everything you would need toget out of the woods without bleeding too much.

I carry a first aide kit too. A small one. Also a patch kit which I think I left out above. No cell phone for me, though I think that's a good idea if you have one. Though I'd want to leave it off! I've been riding with guys before who had to stop and yak with work midride...jez.

I have found on the trails down here in Florida, that carring a survival compass has been very helpfull also in conjunction to most of everything listed.

The $5-00 bill is a good idea. Can pay for a taxi ride but also can double as a liner if your tyre is cut. Works very well. A friend of mine once had to tear a R100-00 bill after he got the second cut. He finished the race!!!!!

Keep those wheels spinning!!!

looks like I dont carry enough with me. I take the phone, a spare tube, puncture repair kit and tyre levers. a first aid kit seems like a good idea though

One of these days a real accident is going to happen to me. One where a riding partner or myself suffers a badly broken limb or a serious head, neck, or back injury. At that point I will appreciate some of this stuff that I regularly take on longer hikes and rides into areas where trails are hard to follow, passers-by are infrequent, and cellular service can't be relied upon.

Have you considered the following in addition to the usual food, water, jacket, and first aid?

Map and Compass/GPS
Leatherman Tool - the knife and the pliers are essential
AA Flashlight - it has come in handy at dusk more than once
10m Nylon Cord - for splints or to tie up torn clothing or bags
Waterproof Matches
Signal Mirror or Whistle
Emergency Blanket

I have a backpacker's mentality and this stuff only adds a little over a pound to my HAWG. I also take athletic tape instead of duct tape since it works better for preventing blisters. The usual multi-tool, patch kit, and spare tube are always in the seat bag along with a couple of extra SRAM Powerlinks. The pump is always mounted on the frame.

I always carry a spare tube in and a patch kit in my saddle bag because I take a lot of short (10-20 miles) rides that I take a water bottle on. I have an Outdoor Products Hydration pack that I got at wal-mart, I would rather have a good Camlebak, but this is good enough for me. Never thought about the chain links.

where do you guys carry all this stuff? do you all have camel packs? i wish i could carry all this stuff, but i just carry a cell phone. I guess it would be pretty hard to dial a cell phone with broken fingers

i can't stand anything dangling in my pockets, do you guys have a way of carrying all this without a camelpack?
