Default Recumbent races

Forgive my newness,I put this in the wrong place.
I was wondering if there is a national road race for recumbents, on a par with say the tour of Britain? And just how many recumbents are there out there(I guess what I want to know is just how popular recumbents are!)
Would love to try one for size, but would feel a bit silly at first, what with them being so rare around these parts

Well, one day i reckon recumbents could outnumber conventional bikes, just as mountain now outnumber racers!

mountain bikes might outnumber racers, but racers definately log more hours.
