In case you don't read the CYCLING TRAINING section as often as the track section if you're a seasoned trackie, I want to ask a track-specific training question.
I am a match sprinter / kiloist. During this time of year many talk of doing base miles. Since our muscles are specific machines in the sense that how you train them is how they perform, how does someone like me (whose only interest is pure speed/power + a bit of endurance) spend time doing base miles? Should the base miles be done at high cadence so that at least the neurological system is remebering the cadence aspect of sprinting even when going easy? Thanks! |

Yes, but don't ignore doing 'some' bigger gears to enhance recovery.

I'm a sprinter myself. In my off season I do about 75% of my miles....mostly in a small gear at a high cadence (what I term my Base) Its also when I do my REAL weights at the Gym. about 2 months before season I get out the Big gears on Hills and do some serious hard Intervals. You can only train pure speed on top of a base....as a general rule most sprinters train slower than others for base miles...but your right about the cadance though...high cadance is good (75 - 90)
