Unhappy I Desperately need help on my wieght!

I really really need help loseing wieght, i have tried a lot, but nothing works! i don't over eat, and i use the bike for about 45 min. everyday. My metabolism is quite slow, so it isn't easy. I'm 14 years old (hope that doesn't change anything).

Wow, I really think you should be eating more, it might actually speed up your metabolism...I'm 18 years old and on a diet and i still eat about 2000 calories a day...used to eat as much as 2600, now that I bike so much and eat 2000 calories my abs are finally starting to show and that's good
I used to weigh 180, now I weigh 166 and took me about 4 months.

Umberto - I would ask your parents to let you see someone to help you plan your nutrition. Everyone is different, but Welchsboy is right, it could be that you need to eat more and maybe make different food choices. I went to see someone to get some help on nutrition and she had me make some changes like having a "power" smoothie in the morning which has a lot of different things in it. She gave me some practical advice which was easy to follow, like making sure 1 meal a day is full of vegetables, like a salad or stir-fry. It is obvivous from looking at what you wrote that you need more fruits and veggies, as well as fat and protein in your diet.

Buy some protein powder and mix it with a fruit smoothie in the morning. My personal favorite is blackberries (you can buy them in the freezer section if it isn't in season or available in your area), vanilla yogurt (2 tablespoons) and a 1/2 cup of 100% cherry cider juice. I also throw in some ice...it makes it really cold and thickens the consistency up a bit.

Hay, your only 14, get out and exercise more as your still growing. If your really concerned about your weight go and see a doctor (and find out if you are overweight and what to do about it). Just eat normal healthy food (you already know what that is) and have some fun. Leave dieting for the adults.

Remember, if you are concerned go and see a doctor. At 14 you'll do more harm than good by following strange eating and exercise patterns. Also remember that things like getting fit, growing up, building muscle, loseing weight all take time and at 14 years old they'll all start to get easier (up to 18 to 22 when you'll stop growing).

Here is one suggestion you should really heed.
Have a Doctor check out your Thyroid for problems.
An abnormal Thyroid can lead to all kinds of problems including weight gain, depression, violent mood swings, sleeping disorders and the list goes on.
Not to be alarmed yet but this is one possible cause of your weight gain.
And you would really need to ride more than 45 min a day.
I gained about 30 lbs in my 3 years off the bike, i, we, well, my wife actually, had two children in that time, and i ride 3-4 hours 4 times a week and have seen some weightloss now.

Good luck

Well you are still growing and stuff so I wouldn't be too concerned as long as you are staying healthy meaning exercising and eating right. I wouldn't really worry about dieting unless the your are excessively overweight. About the different proteins, I was told that protein is protein and it's just where they extract it from. Just keep in mind also that excess protein that isn't used by your body will turn into fat and I don't see where you do need the excess protein...

you didn't say how overweight u are,

at 14 you should be able to eat anything and still lose weight. just do a sh1tload of activity and when u are hungry eat nutritous food. it sounds like u don't eat enough. what u listed would starve most people. don't expect to be strong on the bike if you don't eat enough. you will feel weak all the time. go out there and ride

Hey all, I am a personal trainer and ex chemical engineer and might be able to offer some suggestions.
Addressing the issue of slow metabolism is critical. Try Healthetech.com and find a local provider for a Body Gem test. It will measure your RMR (resting metabolic rate) in under 10 minutes, is quite accurate and affordable (you should not pay more that $55 for the test).
You might also want to look into Balance Log software. You enter in the foods you consume and the exercises you do each day and the software will show you whether you are in a caloric excess (leading to gradual weight gain) or caloric deficit (gradual weight loss).
The software takes into account your age, height, weight, gender, and RMR if you have the test done. The software is incredibly easy to use and makes it VERY obvious whether or not you are eating the right amounts and that your macronutrients are balanced (proteins, carbs, and fats).

You might also want to have your body composition checked.
If your lean muscular mass is low, this could contribute to low metabolism (if that is indeed the case). Working out with weights, doing cardio such as biking and running, AND having a diet that is in proper balance with your energy expenditure is what is important. All three things have to be in place and done in the right amounts.

If you or ANYONE else posting here has any questions email me. mwsteimle@intellifitinc.com

You can check out my website as well for more info www.intellifitinc.com

Umberto, you are 14 my man, your metabolism should be high enough to burn through quite a few calories because you are still growing. I emplore you to get this taken care of quickly because the painful truth is, it gets harder to lose body fat the older you get. If you need a referral to a nutritionist here in Atlanta for you or your parents to talk to, let me know. She is fantastic and we work on clients together.

Umberto - I think you can see that we are all concerned about a young person dieting without proper guidance or supervision which is why I am sticking to the basics. I don't think protein powder mixed in a smoothie is too far out there. I personally use a vegetarian protein powder made by Naturade. I would not recommend soy for a young person though.

I do disagree with one thing that is being said here. As a young person, now is the time to learn about selecting healthy food choices so I think it's good that you are interested. I just don't think you should worry so much about limiting your food intake like you have though or adapt fanatic exericise habits, just try to eat good stuff and have fun with your exercise.
