If you are keen and very fit, you could try the Mawson trail. It runs between Lobethal and Athelstone. It has some strong incline, best taken from east to west, not west to east as I discovered today. It took us 2 hrs to cover 23 km, with only 30 minutes on the bike and the rst pushing the bike up hill! It is mostly rough firetrails, but very picturesque.

A friend has a map which should be available from a good bike shop or try calling one of the Adelaide Hills councils.
