All- Have not been on in a while. I am officially no longer "VA"Racer. An opportunity presented itself causing me to move to Florida. Between the move and studying for the FL Bar exam, I have ridden very little over the last two months. Before the move, I trained relgiously with a PT. However, I have never been in a position of such a long layoff. How do I best get back to where I was? As mentioned, my training was about 6 days a week with 4 days of intervals before the interruption.
My goal is to try and get into a fall race or two down here. However, I am sort of a training noob and cannot simply assume that I can hop back and start the 6 day a week training regime I was in. Any help is appreciated. |

Hi VARacer, So where were you? If you were using a PT I assume you were also using WKO+ and the Performance Manager. I had a month off the bike earlier in the year. My CTL was in the mid-90s before the break and then 30 days later it was half that. Just today, around 4 months after my 30-day break, my CTL broke the 100 barrier for the first time ever (see chart attached). What I did after the 30-day break was exactly what Dave says - I got on my bike and just rode. For the first few weeks I didn't worry about doing anything structured - just rode however I liked. Basically any riding will contribute to rebuilding your CTL and the CTL line will rise quite rapidly; just ride as much as you feel like and for a long as you have time available. Then later, when you are starting to feel fit again, you can start do the more structured training that you were doing before the break. Good luck. JB. |
