I have. You are a perfect example! You truly don't care about nature. All you care about is your ability to mountain bike. I said I did care; calling me a liar? I understand about the environment and also care about it, but I also want to ride my bike...So that statement is rubbish, when you don't truly understand my opinion. "Care" is empty, if it's not expressed in action. You claim to "care" about nature, but you ACT like you don't. When you have a choice, you choose to mountain bike and crush wildlife. Your "care" is only in your mind. *Yawn* Again. you talk bullshit. a) look it up in the dictionary and b) no it's not. From: Mike Vandeman Sent: Friday, May 23, 2008 1:26 AM To: Alex Subject: Re: Hi. At 01:12 PM 5/22/2008, you wrote: I'm a Mountain biker, sorry, flame me. I wear lots of armor. Which is responsible whilst doing stuff. I'm open to your views about mountain bike erosion. Yes, but very little. It's only a track 2 foot wide. You obviously know NOTHING about biology. The presence of people affects wildlife up to 5 miles away, so you impacts are actually a swath 10 miles wide, and many miles long. Fair enough. Still. Walkers will have the same effect. Admittedly you said that, however I still don't like how you say 'some walkers' and then 'mountain bikers' it is only some mountain bikers. Everyone is the same, but bikes allow humans to go MUCH faster and farther. Hikers cause more damage over a smaller area, mountain bikers cause similar amount of damage over a larger area. That's not supported by science. That is just your opinion. The SCIENCE says mountain bikers do much more damage. Your 'research' isn't science. All the science you have argued against, said it was bullshit then said that mountain bikers do cause more damage. http://i5.pinkbike.com/photo/1823/pbpic1823490.jpg That's me riding. You see, there is a small track, little erosion. You obviously can't see, smell, or hear anything while wearing that getup. You are USING wildlife habitat for your personal thrills, which is extremely irresponsible. As I said below, I generally don't pay attention on the way down, on they way up I don't wear that 'getup' so I can and do. And yes I am, though very little of it, and I appreciate the fact I am in a wildlife habitat. Then you should practice minimal-impact recreation, and WALK. People who care about nature don't ride on top of it at high speed. Walking causes the same amount of damage. I do walk occasionally as another hobby. Walkers walk on top of nature as well; that was a retarded statement Walking does NOT cayuse as much damage as mountain biking, according to the SCIENCE. By the way, that trail looks like an illegal trail, because it wasn't constructed the normal way. IS IT? No. I'm not paying attention to wildlife on the way down, but on the way up, I do. I don't leave ANY litter. EVER. Most footpaths are considerably wider than MTB ones. BS. Mountain bikers love to go fast, skid, & ride on the edges of the trail, widening it. What you are on looks like an illegally constructed trail. Nope, applied to the council, approved by the council and then built. And yes they do go fast, it's fun. If you skid, you're shit at using your brake/been able to control your bike. And generally, no. On steep trails, and around turns, it is IMPOSSIBLE not to skid. Again you may want to watch some good riders as that is a very large generalization. You like doing that. Because I have biked for 60 years. I know what I'm talking about. Yeah right. Tell me the difference between a 'drift' and a 'skid'. Then tell me the difference between: Downhill, Freeride, Cross Country, Dirt Jumping and Road biking. you can't class mountain bikers as a whole. So surely that's worse for the environment? No, mountain bikers travel several times as far as hikers, thus doing several times as much damage. But they spend less time on that ground, thus reducing the amount of damage as not as much pressure is applied. That is BS. Because bikers have a smaller footprint, and greater weight (you have to add the weight of the bike), and travel faster, they apply GREATER pressure. No. Again, watch some good riders, they try go as softly over the ground as possible as this helps to go faster. TRYING, yes. SUCCEEDING, NO. Try again, you got it wrong. I spend little time in the place I am, making little noise. Hikers seem to spend a lot more time in the area, making more noise. BS. I hear mountain bikers yelling at each other, because they can't hear each other since they are so far away from each other & wearing helmets. No, you hear SOME mountain bikers. Please start using that word more It makes no difference, because I NEVER hear hikers yelling. They don't have to, because they are walking next to each other. That's because, like you said hikers don't cover as much ground, so you're less likely to even meet other walkers. And it does make a difference! 'some' is different to 'all'. Go use a dictionary. You met every mountain biker? thought not, so use 'some' or 'most'. ^^^ you missed it. Respond to it. So again, surely that is worse. Please reply sensibly, I'm debating not arguing. But you are totally clueless. Read http://home.pacbell.net/mjvande/scb7 before replying. No I'm not. Read. Interesting bit of work to be honest. Yes. Please read it carefully, because it answers many of your questions. Have done. I also think it's full of bias opinion, general banter and just a needless hate for mountain bikers. It's SCIENCE. There's no hate for mountain bikers. I just tell the truth. Mountain bikers call that "hate". Science? You? Truth? no. You rant on about your own opinion. -- On another note, your PhD is in something irrelevant. And your research isn't either official or noticed. ^^^ You missed that too! Respond! And another thing....how many people you actually managed to stop mountain biking in your 14 years of 'research'? Not many. They are too selfish, and don't listen. Just like you. Or they know that it's complete BS? how many wildlife organizations have responded to your letters/emails? I KNOW it is very few, you think that might be for a reason? as they also see your 'research' as complete shit and your opinion. -- I am working on creating wildlife habitat that is off-limits to humans ("pure habitat"). Want to help? (I spent the previous 8 years fighting auto dependence and road construction.) Please don't put a cell phone next to any part of your body that you are fond of! http://home.pacbell.net/mjvande |
