Default 20 Sec * '53-12' @~ 60 rpm- All-out Uphill

Hello,
I have been recommended to perform approx.10 repetitions of the above in order to improve climbing ability;

If anybody has comments on how to make the b e s t out of this workout, that would be appreciated.

Also, is this workout actually works on climbing abilities (only)? or like.. general strength improvement ?

Thanks!!

What you've been recommended is a sprint workout and it will improve your on-the-bike strength, but it will not make you a better climber. In fact, if you spend too much time doing sessions like that, you'll miss out on a lot of work that would help your climbing. Improving your sustained power (FTP) and losing weight will make you a better climber.

This is a silly workout. especially re. climbing.

effective climbing needs a higher cadence than 60 imo. Plus, in a race are you ever going to ride up a hill at 60 rpm on the 12? If you want to practice climbing - ride up the hill in the same gear you would uuse in a race, and do it fast and often as you can in training.

I believe that if you want to improve race performance, make your trainming simulate racing.

You didn't mention the incline OR altitude ... regardless, by MY reckoning, that's not even 100 yards ... or, did I miscalculate -- is it a lot more?

If you're approaching the "hill" (100 yard rise) at anything over 20mph, that isn't a remarkable workout ...

If you're starting at under 5mph, it's probably a good strength workout, but as others have already said, it probably won't help with your climbng since true climbing is more of an aerobic and/or technique process.

Thanks - I had the same post at power-training and already concluded that it is Not going to help in improving climbing.
