Default How to train (for juniors).....

Ive been riding for almost a year now and would like to know what the best ways of training there is for juniors and how much. Currently im doing 300kms a week and i dont know where to go from there. Also would it be a good idea to get a coach.

Thomas

Are you a member of a cycling club? One that has a good junior rider base would be ideal. Maybe contact CycleSport Victoria as a start and look for some clubs that might suit you / are nearby.

Juniors need to do a lot of heavy weights and SE training to strengthen the underdeveloped joints

Sorry Thomas, just having some fun at the expense of your very good question. Seriously at the beginning and as a junior with competitive interests(I'm assuming you'd like to race or ride competitively) a coach and joining a team or club are really smart moves. You can learn a lot about training, riding and racing from books and places like these forums but there's a lot of conflicting information out there and a good coach can put you on the right track and save a lot of trial and error. Bikes, race fees, travel expenses and your time are all valuable, get the most out of it by getting some good mentorship via an established racing club and a good coach if you can.

Good luck,
-Dave
P.S. It can be tough, but try to find a power savvy coach like Alex who bases his methods on science over tradition and has a solid personal background in racing to draw from. Not all coaches can point you in the right direction, I've paid some that took me places I'll never go again.

Thanks. I was wondering if anyone could put me in the right direction for coaches.
