Hi all,
I will be doing the Otway ride in march and am looking for some training tips. I am a reasonably fit rider and am capable of doing 100km no worries. However the sharp jump to 145km's might knock me about. Has anyone done this ride and if so what did they do to prepare? How was it on the day and any thing i should know about the course? Thanks Heaps !!!! |

Hi, I'm in a similar situation. I found this schedule from the Taupo Challenge ride in NZ which is a similar distance and has a lot (more) hills.

Thats very handy. Currently riding to work 2 days a week which equates to 2 hours each day on a hilly course. Managing to get in 1 or 2 long rides on weekends and doing stationary bike most other nights. Hopefully have some conditioning come March.
A few mates are planning to go and ride the course before the event. Ideally we would like to do it twice in the lead up. Im thinking this might be the best way. Shoud try and do the same on th NZ course. Thanks for the info ! ![]() |

heard of the term "base ride" or "foundation ride"? once each week you're supposed to do a "century" or 100 kms. That sets up your body for the following week. So I'd suggest do 100 kms once per week until then, and ensure you just keep up your current training regime- you should be fine. I did the Otway years ago and found it a lot easier than I expected....
