I wonder if his wife had anything to do with this. She has been taking crap over at DP.

He's going to have to fork out a lot of cash if he wants someone qualified as a DS to act as his gopher and relay man. It seems no one who knows more about cycling than Ball would want the job (which is just about everybody in the game), but if he gets someone who knows less than him, their team will be a joke. Its going to be interesting watching this team dynamic, however it develops. Someone is going to have to be in this DS bind, because Ball isn't suddenly going to become knowledgable, or passively stay out of the tactics.

I don't think it will cost much at all. There are a lot of pros who retire and still want to stay involved in the sport. Large supply, little demand = bargain basement prices.

Let's speculating on the next DS shall we?

What about the TMobile ex-DS... aren't they looking for work?
I wouldn't be surprised top see Nathan ONeill take on the assistant DS title.

Yeah, but that's only been in the last couple of days - Frankie makes it sound (in the VN article) as though he's been off the team for at least a week or two, with the way he referred to some recent rumoured signings as occurring after he left. So, I'm thinking that her recent comments on DPF where she was taking some criticism were a result of her knowing that he'd already left the team ...

It gets better.... Ball is talking to Landis about a consultant gig

From Boulder Report:

Specifically, I asked whether he was negotiating a deal with Landis, who’s currently serving a two-year suspension for artificial testosterone use. “Floyd’s a good friend and we’ve had a lot of conversations,” said Ball. “Nothing’s been solidified, but we’ve talked about this since last year. I can’t really speak to that right now, but we’ll see what happens.” Landis was included in a recent e-mail to Rock riders and staff about an upcoming training camp in Malibu.

This could be good. WIth Hamilton, Botero, and Landis they practically have the Phonak team put back together. Get BMC spnnsorship and an ugly kit then they'll be ready to rock.

...aren't you forgetting one ? Fuentes.... get him to the States and the blood can flow again in more sports than cycling. Soon football and ice-hockey games will be reformatted into multi-day games.
