Just curious if any of you have used or heard of "biorhythm's" ? It could possibly be another measure to look at particularly when your planning your "A" races next season...
Ever wonder why sometimes you have what seems like unlimited energy ? or if your at work at things are just clicking and your getting things done like never before ? Or you have days that your a clutz and can't remember things or you say you just accident prone? IMO I think biorhythms may have something to do with it. I've found out that there's not allot of hard scientific proof on biorhythms but there are plenty of industries that use biorhythms to determine when employees have be more accident prone more efficient Etc. My feeling is that if you can identify and align your “A” races with peaks in your Physical biorhythm you may be better off than not… Below I charted Tiger Woods worst performances of 2007 and his corresponding biorhythm for that time. Coincidence or not ? In my opinion best case scenario is to identify when all 3 biorhythms are up (Physical, Emotional and Intellectual) it only happens maybe 2-3 times a year. But again IMO would stand a better chance at Higher performance & lower fatigue than planning for an A race when everything is in the toilet. I’d be curious for those who have been training with power for a while to go back and find your biorhythm peaks and to see how your performance was or wasn’t .. What are biorhythms? The theory of biorhythms claims that one's life is affected by rhythmic biological cycles, and seeks to make predictions regarding these cycles and the personal ease of carrying out tasks related to the cycles. These inherent rhythms are said to control or initiate various biological processes and are classically composed of three cyclic rhythms that are said to govern human behavior and demonstrate innate periodicity in natural physiological change: the physical, the emotional, and the intellectual (or mental) cycles. The first studies of biorhythms were made in Berlin in the 19th century. Nowadays the biorhythmic theory can explain the reasons of being in good or bad state without the apparent cause; being tired when a person is fit for nothing; feeling surge of strength to do one's best. The theory makes it possible to know for sure when a person can get the best of it in business, sport, education and even in private life. Biorhythms are also widely used to prevent accidents, to control the person's state of health and to predict the possibility of partners' compatibility. Biorhythms: Primary rhythms The three primary biorhythm cycles are: The 23-day physical cycle tracks the man's strength, endurance, powers and state of health. The 28-day emotional cycle tracks the stability and positive energy of your psyche and outlook on life, as well as your capacity to empathize with and build rapport with other people. The 33-day intellectual cycle is representative of man's intellectual dynamics: verbal, mathematical, symbolic, and creative abilities, as well as your capacity to apply reason and analysis to the world around you. What on earth (or in which orbit) does this bunkum have to do with power training?
Oh - and I'm a Leo (and year of the Dragon) and that sure makes a difference in planning my race strategy ![]() |

Seems easy enough to test, Biorythms are periodic and keyed to date of birth. Match it up against the PB charts from a couple of dozen folks and see if the performance peaks and valleys line up. My peaks last season came in three to four week chunks which strangely enough followed build and taper cycles and were too long in duration to allow for a phase alignment of three 23-33 day sinusoidal cycles. -Dave |

Alex easy on the Flames I happen to stumble across a measure that could possibly help predict optimal performance. And more importantly (and this is where its related to power) if used in conjuction with cycling peaks Performance Manager to couple A events with a positive TSB and Positive Physical rythm the results may prove beneficial. |
