Default Bike Service

Hi I want to get my Giant MTB serviced, mainly the gears, as they will not
change smoothly anymore.

What should I expect to pay at a local BS for this service ?

Cheers

I assume you've taken the first step of cleaning your chain and cogs?

$30 - $50 plus parts. A proper service should include adjustment of
not only the gears but also brakes, truing of the wheels etc.

Adjustment of the derailleurs is a fairly straightforward job
requiring no tool more complex than a screwdriver, instructions are
available online if you google for them. But there is merit too in
the idea of just dropping it off somewhere to be serviced so you won't
get grease on everything and know the job has been done properly...

Well it is going to depend on how old the chain/cassette is, or it could be just a cable/shifter adjustment, so how old ? how many km's approx. ?

Are we talking 5 years.... can't make out the chain links for the grease and dirt ?? or is it the first bike service that you should get for free ??

If your chain and cogs have had it your looking at about $350.00 for new
front and back cogs and a new chain.

Basic service around $60 - 75 depending on the LBS,

If the gears don't work well 'cause the cables are old add $20 for all
new cables when done as part of a service. I

If the rear cogs and chain are worn add between $56 - ??? depending on
what sort of gears you have.

If the front cogs are worn add $32 if it's one replacable chain ring or
$44 for a new basic crankset if the chainrings are non-replacable.

If it's a 7spd rear wheel you're looking at $190 - 200 for a whole new
drive train and cables, and the LBS should re-pack the hubs as well if
this is done as part of a service.

Only if it's a 9/10spd should be be looking at over $300

Or if you're handy buy a tool box and have a go yourself! the only
bike specific tools you need for this job are an appropriate cassette
remover and maybe a chain whip.

things bike related.
