Does anyone know the cheapest way to post/courier a boxed up bike from Sydney to Perth? Any suggestions except the 'put it on a Greyhound and hope for the best' option, cheers

I've had a couple of quotes but they are pretty steep, $700 door to door. I know there must be cheaper couriers cause I've received bulky stuff for heaps less but wasn't sure if that was as a result of the seller having bulk discount, guess ill just keep looking, thanks anyway |

Good grief. $700!! That cant be serious actualy. Sounds like they don't want' to do it and if they quote high enough you will go away. Don't knock Bus freight. I used to pick up stuff that was sent by bus on a regular basis and it was OK. Regards, Anthony |

Australia post would be less than $700.
Try asking your bike shop which frieght companies they get deliveries from and how much they pay. |

Here's another thought.
You could get a Virgin Blue flight for about $200 each way and take the bike yourself, saves $300 on your Quote. |

Looking at some of the mail order sites for complete bikes you should be able to get freight for around $200.

do you know anyone who works in freight/transport? Companies likes Shaws / Tri-State Transport would ship it for a good price depot to depot (i.e. a case of beer ot two) but you'd need to know someone in the company who would make sure to look after it for you on the trip. (i.e. top load it, hand load/unload it).

greyhound bus freight were the cheapest i found
i recently sent a bike from melbourne to perth for not much more than $150 get it boxed up at your LBS and greyhound will pick it up from the shop. pickup is from the bus depot in perth or they will deliver to an address for a smallish fee. |

^ My LBS charged me $30 to disassemble and pack my bike in an appropriate box (they DO, after all, have quite a few bike-sized boxes lying around!
)i imagine a similar service would be available almost anywhere. |
