Default Conversion: ml oxygen to joules energy? [Alex S, Ric S, Andy?]

Hey guys,

I've been playing around with some formulae which require MAOD as an input... but it so much easier to get AWC values from power data since I don't have a lab. So I was wondering what the precise conversion from oxygen in ml to work capacity in joules is? This is also gonna be helpful in understanding work capacity and oxygen requirements from VO2max and LT tests right? The conversion should be the same?

Cheers,

RS

1ml oxygen = ~ 4.18 joules???

I really should try to work this out/look something up but based on a MAOD calculator Andy developed, I think it's 21.12 kJ/L. I'm not sure if it's the same at VO2 Max and LT though as perhaps the energy source mix (glygogen / free fatty acids) may vary a bit.

If I'm wrong, I'm sure it'll be corrected.

You can estimate MAOD if you have a pursuit like effort recorded with a PM.
