Default Normal blood pressure?

i took my blood pressure the other night and it has sparked my curiousity. it was 110/69 with heart rate 55. this was done after not eating anything for 3 hours, not training for 6 hours, and after i had been sitting in my chair for about 60 minutes. im 28 years old, male, no genetic history of high blood pressure, 5'9", 147pounds, and i ride frequently. i am a cat 4 rider that put in about 450ish hours of training last year (ending august 12). so my question is how does you blood pressure compare? yeah yeah yeah, i know- lots of variables, "we are all different", and such speeches. so to put it bluntly: just spill it.

Mine is high -- usually in the low 140s over 80. It's a genetic thing. I really need to get some good cardio fitness to see if that will bring it down (which it should). I was running for a while, but cycling is much more fun and easier on the joints. So, I bought a new flat-bar road bike and am training for a 120km social ride in November. I'm aiming to get my blood pressure into the 120s.

Don't fret. A generic normal is 120/80. Exercise can help with people who have high blood pressure, though some people have high blood pressure that is not affected by exercise. I have heard that for every extra pound of body fat you carry, you add the equivalent of 1 mile of vasculature, which is the complex duct work generating pressure that your heart has to contract against. Keep pedaling, if for nothing other than to blow off steam generated by work, kids, life in general. DFMN

Ok. Here we go...

Your BP is perfectly normal for a healthy 28yo male. The ideal range according to the WHO is below 130/80. There is a lot of debate about the result from 1 reading. If you were to run up 4 flights of stairs and immediately took your BP, you will find the systolic number could be as high as 190.

Another false reading is attributed to a condition known as "white collar syndrom". In essence it is the artificially high BP reading at a doctor's surgery because the patient is anxious. Stress can cause an increase in BP.

At work I had the chance to use a lie detector. I found that stress (or stressful thoughts) can significanly increase BP.

If your BP is 140/90 or higher, you need to take measure to reduce BP. Less sodium, less stress, lose weight, more excercise.

My aunt has high BP. If she doesn't take her meds, it can be as high as 220/115. Life threatening!

The reason they call hight BP the silent killer is that you don't feel bad. In fact the first time you may realise there is a problem is after a stroke of kidney failure.

Well I guess at 65 years of age I can't complain; today in the gym before my workout my BP was 107/68.(measured twice)

One good way to lower your blood pressure is to drink 15mm of organic vinegar (no sugar) in a glass of water every morning. As well as lowering BP it serves to cleanse the blood. Just my 5 yen's worth. TYSON

Pretty close to mine. Usually 120/62 or so sometimes higher sometimes lower and the heart rate varies in that range also when I am not active.
I am however a lot more.......vintage than you.
YES,VINTAGE THAT'S THE TERM!

I am 28 yr old Cat 1, but when I have my bp tested I am terrified - I am nervous beforehand, and am actually panicking while the doc is testing - I once had 155/70!

One off readings regarding BP are meaningless : to get a realistic meaure, BP readings should be taken several times per day, for consecutive days.
