Lightbulb Opinions on gell filled sadles...

Hi to all,
Gell filled sadles, are they any good, will they improve the riding comfort. At the moment after 2 hours i'm gettin sore behind.Everything is adjusted right but i think the sadle it just not cushy enough.I did notice that a lot of this type of gell sadles range from about $ 25(cnd) and up.The guy at the bike store was trying to sell me some spandex shorts...because it will improve the riding "comfort",what if i have to step into a mall or something...i can just imagine people staring at the guy in spandex shorts....,so spandex is out of the question.
Thank you

Spandex shorts under baggy. Those should be fine. Otherwise, it's a tough thing to find a good saddle. it totally depends on your body type

I'm not that much heavier, and about that height. but I feel like a fatass

Dunno about that, but maybe you wanna try a Selle italia XP wider saddle series. Check their website for more information. Afterwards, make sure you get some padded shorts!

The padding makes sure there is leff chafing, and no hard edges against the vital contact points. It's worthwihle investment. Also, alot of new baggy shorts w/ padded liners are very flattering

I use a Specialized BG Gel filled seat on my Stumpjumper as well as a pair of Shy shorts and they combine really well for a pretty comfortable ride. I did a 50km single track ride two days ago over three and a half hours and didn't get a sore ass.

The Shy Shorts are made by Netti and just look like normal baggy shorts but have a pair of bike shorts sewn inside them. These are made of a kind of netting though so they don't get too hot and the chamois padding makes a big difference. There are some other brands on the market (Specialized for instance) but the Netti was better value for money here in Oz.

Cheers

Well i did ditch my Trek saddle (made by Velo,Velo makes most saddles out there, just look undernieth and you'll see for yourself) in favor of a Selle Royal,Ergogell. At $45 cnd is a tad pricey but worth every penny. And it's not made by Velo in China (or Taiwan...) but in Italy my friends.Aparently the gell used by Selle is a patented stuff that does not break down with time (get mushy...) so i take their word for it,all i can tell yoy that my ride comfort has increased 100% and i do recomend Selle Royal to whoever wants the confiest posible bike ride without having to wear spandex or shamy underwear (he,he,he...)
Thank you

6'0 155lbs here.

I use a Bonty FS2000 on all my rig's....course I like the gel in the middle for me ole' trusty prostate but I like the rest of it firm. Me bum feels better after 20 miles with a firmer saddle.
