Is there any one here that rides or have tried a Sun EZ Sport AX. If so what did you think of it?

Thanks Wink

I'm on my third season on an AX and I do about 2,000 miles a year. They are sturdy, well built bikes but a little on the heavy side. I ride a creekside trail that is basically flat, so the weight doesn't pose a problem. They are slow climbing hills, but this is true of all the LWB recumbents.

I'm 59 years old, so I was looking for more comfort than DF bikes had. The EZ Sport answered all my issues well. The only problem I had was the stock handle bars really had bad wrist angles for me. A friend with a tube bender made me a set with the wrist angles corrected, and 4.5 inches longer. This solved all those problems. The Rans 3-way adjustable 'chopper bars' would solve it for you if it is a problem.

I do all my own wrenching, and have upgraded most of the drivetrain parts, mostly because I like really nice stuff, so I'm familiar with the bikes 'innards'. All the parts are pretty good except two. The headset and bottom bracket are cheap chinese stuff. They should hold up fairly well to reasonable use by the average rider. I just don't think you are going to get 30,000 miles out of them.

I love the ride on this bike. It is so comfortable, that I can get a great workout and not have anything be sore. No neck, shoulder, low back or crotch pain. I call it 'the middle aged guys bike', because it eliminates all the pain. My rides vary between 15 and 25 miles, and my butt does get a little tired of the seat on the 25's. However, 10 minutes after I get home, this is forgotten. I have lost 58 lbs. by riding the Sport, and cutting the food.

Bottom line; this is a great bike, and if you have any comfort/pain issues, you ought to seriously consider it. I hope this helps you decide. You can also go through the archives at Yahoos EZ Sport chat group. brian kaapcke

Thank you for the reply Brian. I am 62 and live in Florida so the only hills I have are called bridges. I do twenty to thirty mile rides five days a week most of the time

I'm glad to hear you found one. I know you will like it right off. One thing about initial setup. For any hill climbing, you want the seat far enough forward so you can really push your low back into the seat. That way, you can push off the seat back and it gives you real climbing power. Let us know how you like it. bk

Well I have had my EZ Spot two days and did a 25 mile ride today on it.Now I am looking on Ebay for some bent legs you all talk about as I think the ones I have may fall off anytime. No for real that bike is cool.I am very happy with it.
Bikes are one of the few things that the less they weigh the more they cost and I don`t think I will be springing any time soon to get rite of the other 10 or 12 pounds. My little wife want`s to spend our free money on stupid stuff like the house and furniture. But since that was bike number two in two mounts I guess I better keep my mouth shut.

Winky, My wife and I are both large people. We purchased two of the sun EZ3_AX trikes. We love them to pieces. they ride smooth and true of what some of the other posters on here wrote they climb slow. But what goes up can come down and wow i hit almost 30 mph on a long downhill talk about a rush. They seem to hold up once you get them adjusted properly. I find i have to check all the bolts and nuts for tightness regularly. Of course i foun using some blue thread lock loctite helps keep em tight. Do not expect to maintain a 15 to 16 mph pace on them right outta the box. They are heavy but not as heavy as some i have looked at. We enjoy ours and hopefully we will be doing the DALMAC bicycle tour in the fall of 2008. It the Dick Allen Lansing to Macinaw bike tour. We plan on using our trikes. Good luck and be safe Peabob

What average speed do you expect to be capable of,on varied terrain by next year?

Thank you

I will be back on it tomorrow. I have real life stuff to do today. It kind of surprised me to get sore legs as I have been doing around a 125 miles a week on a semi recumbent or at lest a pedal forward bike plus ridding a trikke and regular bike. With the twenty seven speed I can`t see climbing a problem. It may be a little slower but I live in Florida on the east coast so the only hills I have are called bridges. We have had a on shore wind for the last few weeks and that was the big thing I noticed was with a head wind it was a lot easer than my other bikes. And I read on other post that they were not good in traffic. I rode more or less every where I ride my other bikes with out trouble. Not being use to it I was slower meeting in close places and gave my self a lot of room when crossing busy streets.

I hope for some where over 15 as I have cross streets and some dirt that I do my rides on.I know on my first ride the only thing that past me were the local roadies that have all the speed stuff and I have clocked them with a car at over thirty so I don`t feel bad to get blowed off by them.I did pass the regular bikes I came up on yesterday.I am doing around 20 to 30 miles a day five days a week most of the time and I expect to keep it up on this one.The Revive I have been riding is around 52 pounds and seven speed and I was avg.10.5 up to 12 mph on it.I will still be riding it some.
I will be 63 in a few weeks so not trying to set any records.I also ride a 21 speed mountain bike and trikkes

Well with some consistant training you have to maintain at least 10mph to do the dalmac so im told. I hope to be between 12 mph and 15 mph depending on the terrain. I will let you knw when i get there thanks. Peabob

You doing good to be on it at all. Glad to hear you are doing so well.I would think that you would always spin and not try to power pedal.Main thin is be careful until the are well healed.
The only club around me that I know of is a roadie club that rides at twenty to thirty mph.So for now I will keep doing my rides as I do.My wife loves to ride but but will not ride on the roads. I do take our bikes to where she can ride with me on bike ways and side walks now and then. Her thing is she will trikke six miles a day and five or six on her bike about five days a week in our subdivision.
