Default XT Hollowtech II bottom bracket adjustable?

Hi,

My '07 Specialized Epic has XT Hollowtech II cranks and Bottom bracket with the external type bearing cups.

After 8 months of use, there is play in the bottom bracket. Can I adjust the bearings? I have checked the Park tool web site for instruction, but cannot understand it. I understand the black cap on the non drive side of the crank is an adjuster. Do I have to loosen the allen bolts on the crank arms and then just
tweek that cap with the special tool?

Any advise welcome!

Cheers.

is the play in the bottom bracket (ie the cups are worn/loose) or are the cranks loose?

My advice.

Take the cranks off.
Take the BB out. Copper grease on the BB threads. BB back in.
cranks back on.
test.
