I am a 40 year old male. 175 cm tall 68kg in weight. VO2 max 64
I only started to get back in shape 6 months ago. I have been swimming and walking up until 1 month ago. That's when I starting riding my old mans 22 year Steve Potts Mountain Bike. I have only recently purchashed a Garmin edge 305, wished i'd waited for the new 705 but thats another story. Anyway I have a max heart rate of 185 BPM when running. The most I can acheive on the bike is 175 BPM. Is this normal? Do I set the max heart rate on my garmin edge to 175 or 185. I assume 175? Many thanks Paul Busby |

It is common that a person's running max is 5 to 10 bpm above his/her cycling max, so yes you are normal.
