Default Rear wheel speed + indoor trainer

Hello,

I'm at the point where I would like to know my rear wheel speed (and thus power) on my 1UP trainer. I currently have a Sigma computer that uses a front wheel speed sensor. I absolutely do not want to replace the Sigma for another computer simply b/c the Sigma has worked flawless this past year and I'm so used to it on the road.

Soooo ... is purchasing the Cateye Astrale 8 computer ... hooking up the speed magnet on my spare training wheel and the "pickup" sensor on the bike ... and nothing else. No cadence hookup. No tying up wires on my frame. And just use the computer when on the trainer a silly idea?

Any other solutions to get wheel speed on a trainer?

Thanks.

Just buy a long cable kit for the Sigma.

Or, fit the speed pic-up on the seat stay, just below the brake calliper.

Cusp,

I have been training like that indoors for a long time. Works great!

I'm assuming you have the wattages for the different speeds for the 1Up. Once you have that and the computer set up, you are in business.
