Default Road triple vs. Mtn. triple

Are modern road triples tough enough for touring, of is best to use tough, "heavy duty" mtn. triples.

On the front, I have a Shimano 105 triple with a 105 derailleur. Very sturdy and good quality. They work great for touring.

The rear is where mtb components may be better for touring because they have a broader range of gears. I use a Shimano 12-32 nine-speed cassette with a Shimano Deore LX rear derailleur. The chain is a Shimano 9 speed chain.

It all works great together.

More the question is whether a road triple offers enough low end gears for a fully laden touring bike on that mountain pass climb.
