Default upgrade question

new to this bike thing and bought a cannondale f400 w/headshock put cityslickers on (don't think i'm ready for trails yet)

My question is What is the 1st upgrade I should make if I want to lighten up my bike?

I was thinking the rims if so any suggestions on what kind are light and strong. I want to start single track prob. next spring.

Any help would be great

Upgrading your wheelset is the best way to lighten a bike. Mavic makes great lightweight wheels as does WTB.
