Default Which would be better?

I rode a Jamis Ventura Race tonight, felt pretty good. LBS is selling for $850.

I also rode a 2006 Felt Fc5 Carbon bike, this was smoother. They are selling this for $1300. MSRP was originally $2000

Both still have to be fit a little better for me. Shorter stem. etc..

Trying to decide if I should spend that much, this will be my first road bike. Plan on riding 2-3x per week, some club rides. Most rides will be 20-30 miles. Maybe higher once I can handle it.

I originally thought about going to one of these more upright road bikes since I'm transtioning from a comfort bike (hate it, feel like Mary Poppins). I have myself quite confused..

Any opionions?

Thanks...
