Default powertap issue-wattage reads "off"

as the title says, the wattage portion of the screen reads "OFF" despite the transmit icon being on. the wattage crapped out completely yesterday at the end of the ride, and I replaced batteries figuring that they had died. After putting the batteries in it seemed to work normally for a few seconds before flipping to "off." Any help would be much appreciated.

Sounds to me that for some strange reason your PowerTap is putting itself into cyclocomputer-only mode. I don't remember the exact sequence of button pushes required to enter/exit that mode (and it may have changed along the way), but the manual should tell you. Perhaps if you force it to go back to powermeter mode it will stay that way??
