I am new to the cycling community. I just got my bike today. I got a hybrid because that is what the people I will be riding with have.
I went to a local bike shop and the guy there helped me find the right bike. It was so fun. It turns out that I had no idea what to look for in a bike because the one I thought was good was way to small. I ended up getting the Trek 7200 hybrid. I also got a new helmet. I was shocked at how he helped me make sure it fit right and that I had it on correctly(which I didn't at first). I want to lose around 75 lbs. So I figure that between doing weight watchers, and cycling I can do it. I don't plan on doing any type of racing. But I love being outdoors. I took a short ride today when I got my bike home and was in love. |

I'm glad to hear you had such a wonderful buying experience and are so excited about riding and getting fit. Good luck and enjoy...I see you are from Buffalo, I'm a little to the East, near Letchworth park and ride there quite often.

You will be addicted in no time! I too have a hybrid and just love it. It's strange though, as every time I start riding I feel that I have forgotten something. Putting on a seatbelt is so automatic to me, that it feels strange that I am moving and am not wearing one - I get over it quickly and enjoy the freedom. ![]() |

Saturday 3 November 2007 - got my new bike! Avanti Discovery 8 with all the trimmings. I'm so excited!
The ride home from the shop was so comfortable and easy, I took the long way! Unheard of, for me, to do 'unnecessary' exercise. It is the middle of the day and hot, so I will sensibly wait til it cools a little before heading out again. Before this, I thought people were mad when they would ride into work or some such. Now - I'm one of them! Well... when I have managed to build my fitness level. I'm planning on riding to work (a short trip so achievable fairly early on). A friend and I are also talking about a cycling holiday next year! That will be great motivation. Did I say I was excited? ![]() |

Went for a longer ride (fantastic in so many ways) and met up with a friend for a coffee so I could show off the bike. She was suitably impressed! ![]() |

Similar thoughts to me Brissie! How can they do it!
However, I was also envious of those that would ride in. Now i'm one of them! Took time to get things ready but absoulutely love it now. I do it twice a week and will attempt another day shortly. |
