tough to answer from this side of the pond...1,500 USD or 2,000 CAD doesn't buy much, but I understand that your prices are different there, much more than just accounting for the exchange rate, and do you take VAT into account?

2,000 CAD gets us an entry level full susser, I paid $1,700 for my daughter's Stumpjumper FSR when reduced, but these are now rare for under $2,500

I'd look at Scott, Specialized, Giant, Trek, before looking at Cannondale and Kona, but don't you have any European brands?

EDIT...I was looking at the Commencal site...nice bikes for the price, but I've not seen them here

most european brands tend to be top end road bikes...pinarello, colnago etc.

actually Bianchi do a full susser for about £1,000.

To name a few more:

Jamis Dakar XC Comp
Kona Kikapu Deluxe
Kona Dawg
Giant Trance 3 (gets my vote in this price range)
