Default My first distance ride.

This coming sunday im going to be doing my first "distance" ride, It's only about 35 miles which I know is not really that far and I know I am totally capable of doing it, but does anyone have any tips on preparing my bike or any gear I should bring along?

Good Luck on your ride!

Yep, I got a flat on the third ride with my new bike. After walking the bike home 4.5 miles I bought a tube repair kit and pump and keep them on the bike. Dont know where you are but lots of water.

I did a ride on my mtn. bike. It was only about 20 miles but half way through my crank arm fell off. The bike shop hadn't tightened it like they should have. Thank goodness I had my cell phone. So, tighten up those crank arms then crank away. Good luck, Greg

35 miles is a long way away from assistance ,ok 5 miles is a long way away from any repair that prevents you from ridding and you end up pushing or worse carring your bike.
GIVE your bike a good going over tyre presure, chain lubed all moving parts working like the should.every nut as tight as it should be.
I carry a backpack on all my rides,so long or short rides i'm prepared for the worst,it contains a firstaid kit.A long sleve cycle shirt and a rain jacket,
a toolkit which has a tow rope.two spare tubes ,patch and solution,a chain breaker,a magic link .a multi tool ,a knife a mini pliers a spoke tool.(put a couple of spokes in your seat tube).a spare brake and gear cable, some cable ties and a small piece of wire.
Besides the obvious cell phone, chewies ,engy bars.etc.
My long rides have gone without incident although i've helped many a stranded cyclist, punctures, broken chains, snapped cables.
most of my punctures have been a couple of k's from home.
My worst incendent a snapped chain causing the derailir to kick into the spokes and snap the dropout.we removed the works and my buddy towed me home.
