I have a bike speedometer, that works really well, but I'm still unsure as to whay my distance is. The product is a> CATEYE MITTY 8. I don't know if anyone is familiar with it but, here is a near average reading on the speedometer for me.
time> 8.11.27 Average> 9.7 distance> 79.89 odometer> 79.9 Max speed> 17.6 It's set at miles per hour. I have the directions but, still not sure what I'm doing in 45 minutes to an hour. I'm guessing around 12 miles. I don't understand why the time is like that and what the Distance and Odometer is telling me. Help! *Monica |

It looks as though you haven't reset it between rides.
Time: the elapsed time of your current ride Average: the average speed of your current ride Distance: the distance of your current ride Max speed: the maximum speed you reached on your current ride Odometer: the cumulative distance of all your rides The "current ride" functions will work properly if you reset your cycle computer after each ride. (The odometer won't reset, but the other things will.) I'm not sure about the Mity 8, but on one of my old bikes I had a Cateye speedometer, and holding the button down (there was only one) for a few seconds blanks it out for a new ride. The user manual for the Mity 8 is available here: http://www.cateye.com/manuals.php?products_id=100

Okay so does the distance make sense to you? I would think that it would say, 4 miles, 8 miles, etc..
Thank you for the reply to my post and for giving me that website. Do you have a speedometer also? How many miles are you riding in a day? *monica Quote:

It would make sense if you haven't been resetting it between rides -- as the computer thinks you've just been on one really big ride, it's saying the current ride is 79.89 miles, which corresponds with your odometer that's at 79.9. If you reset it at the start of each ride, it'll zero out the current ride details, but leave the odometer intact -- so at the end you can get info about that current ride, and still have a count of how far you've ridden in total. Yeah, I have a heart rate monitor/bike computer thing. I try to get in 150-200km (100-125mi) a week where I can. (I've been into cycling semi-seriously for a year and a half or so, by the way; when I was starting out, I was getting in 20-40km (12-25mi) a week.)

A Catey Mity 8 has a few more functions including being able to set multiple trips. Since you do not seem to know the operation of it, I suggest you log onto www.cateye.com and dowload the directions for it. It's a bit more complicated than I care to try to put into text in a post. I have a Mity 3 and three other bikes with cyclocomputers. All do similar things and take a bit of time to get used to using.
I am one of those irritating people that read the directions. Reset for a two button cateye is done by pressing both buttons at the same time when in the average, distance or time display. |

AFAIK the mity 8 is the different shaped and more expensive mity 3. It has two buttons right? You have two modes, Auto (denoted by a tiny A on the screen) and manual. In Auto mode, the time, average speed and trip distance all start counting when you start and stop when you stop. In manual mode nothing counts (except the odometer) unless you press the big button on the right (the M or K for the units flashes when it is started). It all keeps counting until you press the same button again. It all depends whether you like a true average for the whole trip or just for when you were moving. In either mode, all of the measurements are added up as if life was just one long bike ride, unless you reset by holding down both buttons for a couple of seconds. If you hold down the mode button (the left button) when you are in trip distance, you get trip 2 distance, which is reset independantly from the other measurements (you could keep a weekly total with this for example). Hold down again to get into odometer. I have been very happy with mine (mity 3) and am tempted to but another one or two (while they are cheap, before they go out of stock) as the wire connections on the back of the computer mount are a bit iffy best wishes james

Thanks James. I have the exact one that you mentioned. It will just take me some time to get use to it and figure it out... Thanks for the insight. You've been very helpful.
