1" steerer tube to 11/8"

I have a 1" steerer tube on my bike and pulled the front forks off to measure the diameter to see if there was any way to get a 1 1/8" suspension fork to fit. Can the mounts that the bearings are on be removed from the frame and a larger diameter one be installed to allow for 1 1/8" steerer tube. There is alot more choices on front suspension in the 1 1/8" than in the 1".

Had the same problem.....my solution was to buy a new bike.....I was told that there were way to many things that have changed, like v-brakes from the older style(cannot remember the name), then brake levers and so on. May have been giving a line of crap but I wanted a new ride anyway. Good luck. Cotty

The quick anwer is no. The long answer is hell no. I heard once that anything is possible, but money was heavily related to that as well. You can sometimes find good forks made with 1" steerers. It will be a challenge though. If your frame is made for a 1" steerer (and since it had a 1" fork on it I feel VERY comfortable assuming it is!) then you have no choice but to search for a 1" steerer fork. Anyone saying they can "modify" a headset to convert your frame to accept 1 1/8 forks is a moron and just trying to make some money for them and trouble for you, period. I wish I could give you some news you want to read, but...

I guess that I should have stated that all of that needed to be done if I bought a fork with a 1" steer tube because of the compents that I had on that bike. If the fork is bad and you cannot afford a new ride, you might look to see if you can find a rigid fork to fit it. I do not know if they are available but it might be worth a shot.
