Last Tuesday I was just finishing up on my recumbent stationary bike (I do 75 mins/3x week @ 21-24 mph in addition to my regular outdoor cycling)...when I had a family emergency I had to quickly attend to. I jumped off the bike, without doing stretches after, took care of the problem but never remebered to stretch because it was 2 hrs later that I finally got the problem here under control.
Anyway, I was under a lot of stress due to this emerg when I was running up the stairs and it happened. BAM, my left calf felt like someone tore it out of my leg and I couldnt walk, I had to crawl up the rest of the steps. Next day, dr diagnosed charlie horse in left leg, put me on anti inflams and said no biking till it got better. I felt like I was kicked in the stomach and sank into a depression. I look out the window , see others riding their bikes and I start crying. This is the first time I've ever been on exercise-related injury rest since 3 yrs ago when I went back into cycling after a 20+ yr hiatus. This morning I felt a lot better, so I got on my cycle and rode 14 miles round trip. I feel great, leg doesnt hurt. I'm wondering if I can do the exerciuse bike tho, because thats a lot more intense than the regular cycling (plus this bike uses my calf muscles more than my regular cycle does.) I cant get over how deeply depressed I felt at being told to rest! Am I addicted to exercise?
