That is just plain ludicrous! Presumably Marmite will suffer the same fate.

I was corrupted by New Zealanders - I used to be a Vegemite kid, but went skiing in NZ one year and couldn't get anything but Marmite. Tried it, and decided I preferred it to Vegemite, so now I'm a Marmite kid.

According to Snopes the ban is real for commercial importation but the story that travellers are being searched and vegamite confiscated is an urban myth:

funny story: the first shipment of vegemite that landed in the US was sent back. As soon as they saw it was black, they thought it had gone off!!

Marmite?? disgusting stuff!!
