Default Anything to do in Kilmore, Victoria

I'm going to be spending a week in Kilmore, Victoria in December. A google search hasn't brought up much info. There's a gym there but doesn't appear to have a web site. What about a ride? Should I take my bike?

Absolutely take the bike....Kilmore is on the edge of the Macedon ranges, some of the best riding in the State!.....

The town of Broadford is about 15 mins away and the Broadford/Seymour Club is quite active. Best to try contact through Seymour Cycles - (03)57 923845.

hahahahahahahahahaha...Oh, you poor bast**d! I used to live near Kilmore, god it's boring! The Macedon Ranges are great for a ride, plus it'll take you out of Kilmore. Not sure what the bike scene is like but whenever i go back home, I see more and more cyclists around. Also, prepare for the wind. For some reason, it always seems to be windy out that way.

P.S For all those Kilmore-ites, please do not take my comments to heart, they were written in jest.

Pretty much nothing on the internet.

I arrive Sunday arvo and depart Thursday lunchtime.

From the map, it looks like Mt Macedon is 90k return, great for a weekend ride, but a little far to do before breakfast on a weekday. What routes do you suggest?

Bradford only 14k away, Perhaps the race is nearby.

Ah it just go worst, I'm 11k east of Kilmore. Theres a local bike race on Tuesday night 52k north of Kilmore, ie 63k from where I'm staying. I've contacted the local club and they are going to see if anyone can give me a lift.

That also makes Mt Macedon 70k return, if I got up early enough....

70 k isn't too bad, though it still may be a little far for a weekday morning ride. Not sure about anything a little shorter, it's been many years since i was out that way. If you do get a chance though, I'd strongly advise going up the mount. Nothing better than screaming down Macedon at 90k's. It's a top part of the world.

What time is sunrise? I've only got flashers. I'm tossing between taking my commuter 70's racer and my OCR, the commuter has a top gear of 53*14 at the moment where the OCR has 53*11. If I make it to Macedon, the higher gearing may be needed for the return.

The bloke from the local club said there were plenty of rides and it was windy, so if I'm cleaver, I head out into the wind and get a tail on the way home.

Sun times for Kilmore
Sunrise: 05:53 EDT
Sunset: 20:27 EDT

Looks like I can't roll out any earlier than 5.30am with just flashers. So I probably won't be able to tame the mountain this time.

Race for Tuesday evening confirmed. I'll be in a handicap at Mangalore, which is on the Avenal Rd about 10 or so ks north of Seymour. I've been given a lift by one of the riders.

You'll enjoy the terrain at Mangalore Mike. Flat, but lovely roads to ride on . Bugger all traffic and mostly a very nice surface. The road you start on is actually the old Hume Highway, from before the Freeway was built.
I'm not in the local club yet, but as soon as I get my new bike I will give it a go.

Turn up on Tuesday night. That will make 29 + me + you = 31 riders.

I've heard of the use of handicap in country areas, as it helps with the smaller number of riders, but I've never been in one. How they are going to grade me, I have no idea?

Kilmore is very Windy.... Totally agree. I use to ride horses at Pretty Sally Riding Ranch... And Pretty Sally hill is a reasonable climb.

Cheers all
