what wheels do i need to fit 1.0 tyres on my mtb i now have 26 x 1.50 wheels on it

I guess you found a 26x1.5 sticker on your rim.
You can fit any 26" tyre from 28mm to 60mm as long as the inflation is in the recomended range for the tyre. If you have found some 26x1 slicks, they are designed for the normal MTB rim also, nothing special is needed.
