Thumbs up trek hybird gearing change

My wife has a trek 7100 hybird and loves the bike but hates the gears and shifters. Bike is a 21 speed and she wants gearing like my fuji nevada 24 speed. Can the trek 7100 be changed to 24 speed. I am a newbe at working on bikes but am learning.

Can you post the link to her exact bike, I will need to check if it has a CS or MF 7 speed cassette on the back. There are different ranges in both types avaiable.

What type of shifter does she want? Rapid Fire, Twist Grip, Levers? These come in both 7 and 8 speed.

If it is the same as the 2007 model,
http://www2.trekbikes.com/bikes/bik...id=1312600&f=27
it has a 28/38/48 tooth crankset leave it as it is. Just change the cassette to a Sunrace 7 speed 11-24 cassette.

cheers

It is too difficult to change a 7 speed hub to an 8 speed hub, the 11-24 7 speed cassette will give good road speed.

If you can't get the Sunrace 7 speed, Shimano have a 7 speed 11-28 cassette.

Consider tyres and pressures, Conti Sport/City Contact in 28-32mm at recomended pressure will help.

Again, what are the shifters, the pix doesn't show? If twist grip, look for Shimano EF50 or EF29 7 speed Rapid Fire shifters.

Some bikes require a more radical approach: http://www.cyclingforums.com/t363004.html
