It's hard to know Steve.

A couple of years back - the army and police rolled up with tanks and guns at Heathrow.
The goverment claimed there was "intelligence" to suggest that there was going to be a terrorist attack at Heathrow,
None materialised.

After 7/7, the police shot dead an innocent young man of Brazilian origin because they believed he was a terrorist on the Tube.
Again they got it wrong.

Two Muslim brothers were the subject of a police swoop three months ago which resulted in the "accidental" shooting of one of the brothers by the police.
They got it wrong - again.

The British State also failed to prevent an actual attack - 7/7.

All in the name of security - don't you know.

I am inclined to give Craig Murray the benefit of the doubt, FO officials are frequently in the intelligence loop as it were, so his claim of domain knowledge is certainly plausible. His watch list point is a good one and the timing is handy from a propaganda point of view. Reid is desperate to improve his image having fucked up his two prior appointments (and current appointment).

Reid's past doesn't surprise me much, given his recent history of assault and affray. Seems somewhat bizarre that Ken Livingston gets hauled over the coals for a bit of verbal, whereas Reid gets off scot (haha) free after chinning a photographer - and that isn't the only assualt on his black and blue record.
