Exclamation any suggestions for a versatile road bike, ie bianchi eros or surly cross check?

I bought a used dekerf mountain bike (hand made here in lovely vancouver BC)
and am considering another bike for mostly commuting to/from work and/or touring.

So I prefer a steel frame and one that is
light, FAST (I love to go fast) and yet comfortable
for extended periods in the saddle if i ever go touring for a bit.

any suggestions, aside form the surly cross check, bianchi eros and trek 520?

I'd like to keep it under $1500.

also...any websites (esp here in BC Canada) that has good buy/sell listings and/or stores for buying used (hey, we all like
to save a bit if we can).
