Hey, I am a newb here, and I am riding a Trek Alpha 1000 road bike. I have the Vuelta Airline 2 rims, and I think one of them is bent. I have been out of the saddle now for about 9 months, so I am going to get a trainer to get my legs in shape and then get on the road again. I think the wheel will last on the trainer but I am going to want to put the new wheels on my bike before I get on the road. I am 6'2'' 280, can you guys recommend any wheels that will withstand my weight on the road? Thanks for your help.

You can go to a shop and have then lace your hubs to a nice Mavic or FiR rim.
Or look at the Velocity wheels - <http://www.bullteksports.com/catalog/Road-Wheels.htm> Price is very good for a complete set of wheels. Just compare new complete wheels vs. rebuilding yours.

I would get a set of hand built wheels from a shop. You're gonna need something strong. 36H 3-cross. That's my 2 cents.

For reliable rolling around on the road and good value for money, the best bet is Shimano 105 hubs (use the same cassette as before) with DT Swiss Champion spokes and Mavic CPX33 rims.
'Cause you're a big bloke 36 spoke in 3 cross pattern will probably ensure reliable running. This would be one of the strongest combinations around and will be well worth the cash. |
