Default Cyclist tradgedy.

A cyclist was killed when he and his colleague were hit by a car on the N19 freeway near Westville in Durban,(South Africa) Netcare 911 has said.

Spokesperson Chris Botha said the two cyclists were riding a tandem bicycle when car hit them.

"One of the cyclists died at the scene and the other one was taken to St Augustine's hospital where he was in a critical condition," Botha said.

The cycling situation in South Africa has become ridiculous. Everyday one hears about a cyclist getting knocked down and/or killed.

Any ideas on what we can do?

I still believe in the introduction of cycle lanes/paths. I know many organisations and individuals have spent hour’s lobby-ing the cause. But it seems the politicians only entertain the ideas close to election time, make the promises and then promptly forget about it.
