I am using kenda 1.95 tubes in a 2.25 tyre. I was told this was OK. The tyres are rated at 40-60 PSI. I am running the rear at 40 and the front at 30-35. NO problems...until this morning.
I checked pressure front and rear and went for a moderate ride....but bumpy. Suddenly that unwritable sort of "wubbling" sound, followed by unprintable words spoken. Flat. I re-pumped, and checked to see it was not just the valve from when I had pumped up earlier.....nah! I was not far from home so rather than repair in the rain on the wet leaves, I walked back home. The tube has split on the seam next to the rim tape. There is no sign of wear, or puncture. The seam has simply opened up over a length of about 1/2-3/4 inch (12-20 mm). It does not even show until you either pump up the tube quite a bit, or pull it apart. I have repaired it to see what happens. Crappy tube (stock with bike)? Tube too small? Shit happens? Thanks for any advice. |

You used a KENDA!!
Nic, go the extra $ and get Conti with presta valves. If you want some cheap tyres and tubes come and see me. http://perthmtb.com//modules.php?na...iewtopic&t=1605 Some of these are off new bikes.

OK. Crappy tube then I didn't exactly _use_ it. I simply _re_used it It was on the bike. However I take your point. I have spares (not Conti. I will check that out) that certainly look better on the seams, with a slight ridge, where the Kenda has a simple butt joint. Anyway, apart from the bad reuse of the Kenda, it's nothing I have done. Most unfair. It was such a good ride and I was just getting rid of a bit of steam! Bah! ![]() |
