Default hand fix?

hi everyone, i am new to cycling and just got a new roadbike the other day. I love it but when i ride my hand really hurt, and they hurt for a few days after the ride. Are there gloves that i can use? or is there a special way to hold handle bars?

Gloves will help and get ones with a gel pad in the heel of your palm.

What you need to do is build up your lower back muscles so that when you ride there is no (little) pressure on your arms at all.

Eventually you will be able to ride in a tuck position no hands...

Go slowly too or you'll end up with a bad lower back...

I broke both my wrists in a nasty cycling accident years ago, and suffer from aching wrists on long rides (over two hours). Here's my two tips:

- I've come to rely on good gel mits - be careful to get specific road or mountain bike version depending on what you're riding - the pads are all in different places.

- I also ride with gel handlebar tape - I'm using one from Specialized (Phat Tape or similar) that has extra gel strips that you stick onto the bars before you wrap the tape around.

Works for me.
