Companies like Trek, Bianchi, etc make a wide range of bikes; from entry level to pro level. Thus, chosing a bike simply on brand is an invalid experiment. Many different brands in the low to mid level are actually the same frame sourced from Taiwan and built up to a certain manufacturer's spec with appropriate logos.

Ferrari bike + bad rider =

FWIW - a high-end custom job would be my choice

If you're interested in the "Ferrari/Lamborghini of bikes", I'd surely mention Colnago and De Rosa. But, as said, there's quality offerings from lots of companies - Trek, Giant, Specialized, etc... you name it. It you really want the best of the best and have piles of spare cash around, custom is the way to go: Calfee, Parlee, Independent Fabrications, Seven, Serotta, etc.

nice thanks... just nice to look i guess....

hey is there a big difference between a "road racing" bike and a "TT/ triathlon" bike and what are they? are there bikes that cover both styles quite well? and what is cyclocross? is there any other types of road bike?

also what is a good/ nice average weight for each class?

and do you have orbea in the US and are they a nice bike? what about GT?

thanks..

RR vs. TT bike is about frame geometry. You can get a decent road bike and outfit it with clip on tri bars for the occassional TT or tri. Also a TT/tri specific bike will have different bars.

Cyclocross is a whole nother animal. Basically a beefed up RB fram with 35mm tires, canti brake and road levers.

Ferrari = Cervello, Colnago...

Lamborghini = Baum, Pinarello...

Hyundai = Giant, Trek...

From what I gather...

If you want the fastest bike around (a "Ferrari") get the carbon fiber Cervelo Soloist Team with Zipp 404 wheels. That's what CSC rides.

Serrotta and Merlin are upscale brands but I don't like them, I only like aero bikes. I think Bianchi sucks.

Kestrel makes a nice Talon SL and a MTN bike too.

A Pinarello is the most fantastic bike I have ever owned.

I purchased a "Paris", and have been blown away. It has all the desired qualities without compromise.

Super stiff, but comfortable (how do they do it?!)

Turns on a dime, but not twitchy.

Extremely light, but supports my big body with ease.

Every time I take it out, it feels like a brand new bike.

I guess if by Ferrarri you mean Sleek and Italian, these are the ones you:

Pinarello & Opera
De Rosa
Colnago (The older 80's frame with stainless stell forks make the best single speed commuters)

Its funny, as I believe there was a Ferrari branded Colnago released in 2003?, as I distinctly remember Mr Schmacher pictured with one. Limited edition with the Ernesto sig.

If I'm providing the horse power then a Colnago becomes a Ferrari with the engine of a Hugo.

I agree that the Cervelo Soloist is definitely in Ferrari territory but if you want a Porsche, buy the R3. It's a driver's dream. It climbs, descends, rides the rough terrain and doesn't fatigue the rider. The more you ride, the more you want to ride. Best bike I've ever owned, ridden or dreamed about. Oh and the Zipp 404s, bars and crankset help a lot too. Did I mention my Zero G brakes? Damn that's an awesome bike.

the fastest ever ascent of Aple d' Huez was done on a Bianchi...thats Ferarri in my book.

plus i own a Liquigas team bike...so i may be biased slightly.

In terms of fast and exotic, the BMC Time Machine probably wins hands down.
