american coverage of the final itt harped on the fact that today's average speeds were so fast. it is a neat stat, i'll admit, but it really means nothing. it is hard to make average speed comparrisons from one race to another without considering the course, weather, race dynamics, etc.
by the way, ulrich's crash was terrible. what a sad way for him to end this year's tour. |

Indeed!
What a shame! He was doing so well,especially when he was cycling in the rain,when we all know he preferes the hot days... However,he wasn't winning the necessary time to threat Armstrong's yellow jersey,but in spite of that he deserved better luck!
