Question Fork Oil Change

Hi all.
Does anyone know what characteristics will be efected if the weight of the oil is changed in the forks ?

The reason I ask is because I've recently changed 25% of the oil to a thicker one as the rebound (non adjustable in Manitou Axel Comp) was allowing the fork to "Top out". The change has cured the initial problem but now I appear to have a front disc noise which resonates through the fork. It's kinda weird, not your normal squeek as the forks are shaking and the noise is a "warbling squawk" (I know, but how do you explain a noise??). Stopping power is still there though (not contaminated)

Does anyone have experience with Giant MPH Discs? Are they prone to the above phenomena? Do they do this if they get too hot? Has the oil change effected anything?

Ta.

It is unlikely that changing the fluid in the fork affected your brakes. If the noise is from your front brake does it go away if you lightly tap the brake, if so you just need to readjust your brake. Make sure the wheel is in correctly, and adjust the pads. Sometimes the pads wiggle out of place and make funny sounds.

You can clean the rotor/pads with rubbing alcohol. Like ginzu stated if the pads are not alligned correctly then they could squeak. Changing the viscosity of the oil could NOT make your brakes sqeak UNLESS some of the oil found its way onto the rotor or pads. That is easily done and taken care of. Clean everything, make sure everything is alligned correctly.

The thicker the viscosity the slower the compression/rebound will be. The opposite is also true. That assumes your fork has an internal valve (as your manitou does). If you are changing the oil you should change the oil completely. Don't ever empty out a little and then add some to the fork. It doesn't take any longer to do things correctly and it will help keep the fork working proper. Have fun.
