Default If i see another soccer player....

....fall down like somebody just took a bat to his leg/head/etc. and then jump up and resume play after he doesn't get the call i'm going to puke. why are they such pu$$ies?

note to the fakers: if you are writhing around in pain one second and running full tilt down the field the next w/o a single hitch in your step then you are pathetic.

while i fully realize that american sports have their faults, including grandstanding to get the call, you don't see them flopping around like a poleaxed calf in an attempt to get the whistle.

The NBA calls these thespians "floppers". Vladi Divac was one of the best. There would be times when 'he' would run into someone and then throw himself to the court and start flailing around like a fish. He would get plenty of penalty calls in his favor though.

wait til you see the Italians play, they turn diving and painful falls into an art form. the ref sees right through it and they spring up and harass the ref for a while then just play on.

its funny, its what you expect. Treat it like ballet.

Mind you, the Italians are very hard when they want to be...they are not scared of a brutal tackle, watch out USA.

Dear old Jurgen Klinsmann (GER) was an expert at falling down around the penalty with not an opponent in sight.
It's a wonderful gift to be able to do that, and to keep a straight face while doing so.

Wait untill you'r looking for something to watch on a saturday afternoon and theres soccer on 5 of the 6 sports channels,Just as well we beat the scots (rugby) so at least i can catch that on the Highlight channel. Is't funny how when the national side looses you battle to get to see the game if you missed it,but if they win its on the news, its replayed for crit and its on the highlights over and over.

i agree that he flopped a ton. however, he didn't act like he was in immediate need of a medivac every time he flopped.

It's just a part of the sport. It has some statigic value as well, gives the team a breather and ices the transition. Did you know players are nominated for Oscar's.

Have you seen players being loaded up on the stretcher yet ?

Shoot, that was a match I wanted to see.
Did the player get up and start running and cheering as soon as they carried him to the sideline and out of the stretcher? Or do you think he was really injured.

At first I thought he faked it - just tripped and fell on his face and then put on the Italian face of agony for the camera. It was just the ball between him and the goalie so it was a fast breaking play. But then in repeats you can see the Ghana guy clearly trip him at the ankle in an attempt at a slide takle from behind (quite a ways behind the ball) and then Italian guy's ankle kind of twisted sideways and then they called for the stretcher and added about 5 minutes to the half.

actually when you see the tackle close up it was very painful. He almost got his ankle smashed. My immediate thought was that he was going for the dive but whne the camera replayed it, it looked nasty.

Yes, I saw the replay this morning. Looked pretty bad but he should be ready for this Saturdays match.

maybe its time to start watching rugby...notice the NHL has started calling penalties for embellished dives in the Stanley Cup Finals...soccer needs to follow suit.
